Uzbekistan Launches Large-Scale Solar and Battery Storage Project with Masdar
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President Shavkat Mirziyoyev officially inaugurated Nur Bukhara, the country’s first large-scale integrated solar and battery storage project, developed by the UAE-based company Masdar, the company reported.
During the event, the head of state also launched Masdar’s Guzar project, featuring 300 MW of solar energy and 75 MWh of battery storage, scheduled for commissioning in 2027.
The opening ceremony was attended by Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev and the UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al Mazrouei.
Agreements on investment, grid connection, and battery storage systems were signed for the Zarafshan BESS project, which will become the country’s largest standalone battery storage facility.
Additionally, a roadmap was presented for the development of a 1,000 MW wind project in Navoi region, which will serve as the first phase of a 2,000 MW renewable energy program aimed at expanding Uzbekistan’s clean energy capacity.
