Uzbekistan Launches Five-Year Medical Training Program for Work in Italy
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has sent its first group of medical professionals to Italy as part of a pilot project for organized recruitment, the Migration Agency reported.
On 13 October, a group of 10 specialists from Tashkent and Samarkand arrived in Milan. Over the next three months, the participants will work in Italian clinics while simultaneously studying the Italian language and learning the specifics of the local healthcare system.
The aim of the project is to compare the healthcare systems of Uzbekistan and Italy, identify key differences, and assess the adaptation period required for professional and linguistic integration. Italian experts will also conduct an evaluation of the Uzbek participants’ qualifications. Based on the results of this pilot phase, a joint training curriculum will be developed to prepare 3,500 mid-level medical professionals.
The program is part of a five-year cooperation plan between Uzbekistan and Italy in the field of labor migration, formulated following negotiations with Italian Minister of Health Guido Bertolaso, Lombardy Governor Attilio Fontana, and other relevant institutions and companies.
The Migration and Mobility Cooperation Agreement between the two countries was signed during Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s visit to Uzbekistan in May 2025. Shortly thereafter, the Italian government allocated the first quota of 1,500 job placements for qualified Uzbek specialists.
