Uzbekistan launches first tender for wind farm construction

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Uzbekistan launched the first tender for wind farm construction. Investors interested in participating in the project to build the first wind farm in Uzbekistan can submit an application by 13 May 2020. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy.

The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and the Agency for the Development of Public-Private Partnerships under the Ministry of Finance invite independent private electricity producers to participate in the development, financing, construction, ownership and operation of facilities under this project.

The first tender for a wind energy project will be implemented with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development as part of a cooperation agreement whose ultimate goal is the construction of wind power plants with a total capacity of 1 GW.

An invitation to submit interest expressions is an announcement of tenders for the construction of a 100 MW wind farm. The tender will be held in 2 stages, including qualification selection and consideration of technical and commercial proposals.

In Karauzyak district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, a site was chosen for the construction of this wind farm and related infrastructure. Currently, the site is conducting environmental research and work on the study of bird migration.

The plans also include the construction of a wind farm with a total capacity of 200 MW near the site for the first power station. A similar tender will be held to implement this project.

The project is part of a large-scale strategy for engaging renewable energy sources, implemented by the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

In general, this strategy provides for the deployment of cost-effective and environmentally friendly wind power plants with a total capacity of up to 3 GW in the next 10 years in order to meet the growing demand for electricity in the country.
