Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 February 2023, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva received the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to our country Kim Hee Sang.

During the meeting, issues of further development of constructive cooperation between the two countries, including raising the level of inter-parliamentary dialogue and expanding bilateral relations, were discussed.

It was noted that efforts aimed at deepening relations between Uzbekistan and Korea in the interstate political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, ties on the path of "people’s diplomacy" serve to ensure the continuity of interstate ties.

As a result of the strengthening of trade, economic and investment relations between our countries, trade turnover has doubled over the past five years and reached US$2.3 billion in 2022.

During the conversation, attention was paid to the current state and further development of inter-parliamentary relations. It should be noted that the Commission of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis on cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and the Korea-Uzbekistan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Association of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea are currently effectively carrying out their activities.

During the meeting, the Chairperson of the Senate sincerely congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment to a highly responsible position and separately emphasized that the Republic of Korea is a reliable and time-tested permanent partner for Uzbekistan. The Chairperson of the Senate also noted the importance of the parliaments playing an important role in strengthening the high-level bilateral relations of a special strategic partnership, and continuing the effective work of high-level cooperation in the implementation of systemic parliamentary control over the practical implementation of the agreements reached between our countries.

In turn, Kim Hee Sang expressed gratitude for the sincere reception and stressed that the friendship between the two countries, which have developed over the years in almost all areas, is extremely important and significant for the Republic of Korea, and the key role in the further expansion of such a strategic partnership is played by parliamentary diplomacy.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached on deepening cooperation in the industrial sector, in particular in the textile industry, as well as on mutual support of the countries’ initiatives at the international level.
