Uzbekistan Joins Board of Peace to Strengthen Security and Foreign Policy Interests — Kamilov

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s decision to join the Board of Peace was driven by security considerations and the alignment of the Board’s objectives with the country’s foreign policy priorities, said Presidential Advisor on Foreign Policy Abdulaziz Kamilov. In an interview with the television channel “Uzbekistan 24,” he detailed the reasons for the country’s participation in the initiative and outlined Uzbekistan’s key priorities within the Board.

According to Kamilov, the primary motivation for joining the Board of Peace is to ensure security. He emphasized that the Board’s goals and tasks fully correspond with the principles of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy.

“In this region, we indeed have significant vital interests,” he noted, citing regional, global, and national security, as well as the prevention of threats related to extremism.

The presidential advisor recalled that in the past, some Uzbek citizens had joined extremist groups in the Middle East and, upon returning home, could create security challenges. “The state ensured their return and established conditions for social reintegration and starting a new life,” Kamilov said, highlighting that this humanitarian approach has been highly praised by the United Nations and is considered a model for other countries.

Special attention was given to the connection between the situation in the Middle East and security in neighboring Afghanistan. Kamilov pointed out that extremist and terrorist organizations began to emerge in Afghanistan following military operations, arriving from the Middle East. Addressing these crises requires coordinated international participation, including the United States, Arab and Muslim countries, and Central Asian states. “If peace and stability can be established thoughtfully, step by step, it will be a major achievement,” he stressed.

Kamilov also noted the symbolic importance of Uzbekistan’s participation in the summit. According to him, it is not only a politically significant event but also a demonstration of trust and respect for the country, confirming its status as a serious player on the international stage.

It is worth noting that on 22 January, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Board of Peace agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump. The ceremony took place in Davos during the World Economic Forum and brought together representatives from the Middle East, South America, Europe, and the South Caucasus.
