Uzbekistan, Italy Agree on Seasonal Workers in Agriculture

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting was held in Tashkent with the participation of Behzod Musayev, Head of the Agency for Migration Issues, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Agriculture Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, Italy’s Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida, and Vice President of Confagricoltura, Luca Brondelli.

During the talks, key agreements were reached on engaging Uzbek citizens in seasonal agricultural work in Italy. In particular, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Uzbek Agency for Migration Issues and the Italian organization Associazione Imprese Ortofrutticole.

Under the agreement, Uzbek citizens will be able to work on seasonal assignments ranging from three to nine months. The association brings together more than 35 major Italian companies in the fruit and vegetable sector, including farming, processing, logistics, and export. Key products include apples, kiwis, pomegranates, strawberries, and other fruits.

Association President Marco Salvi noted that under a 2026 pilot project, 100 Uzbek citizens are expected to be employed, with full provision of necessary work and living conditions in Italy.
