Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 May 2022, a Roadmap was discussed during an event in Tashkent, which envisaged the adoption, approval and approval of the National Strategy for the Health and Well-Being of Adolescents for 2022-2026.
It was attended by representatives of the Senate, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the Government, the United Nations and academia.
The discussion noted the need to endorse this comprehensive Strategy, which sets out an integrated approach to address mental health, injury, road traffic accidents, healthy lifestyles and behavioral patterns among adolescents.
Participants noted that the approval of this important document will promote appropriate funding and a multi-sectoral approach to working with adolescents in sectors such as health, education and child protection.
This will bring Uzbekistan closer to the adoption of the Strategy, comprehensively developed in accordance with international and regional practice.
“The approval of the National Strategy for Adolescent Health and Welfare requires concerted and coordinated efforts by all relevant partners and sectors under the auspices of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” said Munir Mammadzade, Head of the UNICEF Country Office in Uzbekistan.
Adolescents in Uzbekistan make up 16.2% of the country’s population, or about five and a half million people, which represents a high potential for a demographic dividend if this target group is given due attention.
In addition, the draft Strategy supports global and national recognition of the need to intensify action for the health and well-being of adolescents in order to reverse negative trends in this population. social and gender norms can limit girls’ life choices and prevent them from accessing services.
