Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 20 December 2022, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis held a videoconference with Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong.
During the conversation, an exchange of views took place on the current state and promising areas of cooperation between the Parliament of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Railways, and it was also emphasized that the approach of Uzbekistan is indicative and serves as a vivid example of systematic and effective work with the Organization.
In particular, the Secretary General of the IPU, congratulating Uzbekistan on the resolution “On strengthening the role of parliaments in accelerating the achievement of the SDGs” adopted on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, stressed that the IPU considers this document an important component in the further development and preparation for the SDG Summit, as well as a unique guide for parliamentarians of the world, mobilizing their efforts in monitoring the implementation of national indicators.
Also, Martin Chungong, confirming the growing interest in Uzbekistan in the world, emphasized that, undoubtedly, the popularization of the experience of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of ensuring gender equality will be a significant contribution to strengthening the position of Uzbekistan in the international arena.
In turn, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis noted that the Parliament of Uzbekistan will continue to resolutely continue and develop cooperation with the Ministry of Railways in all areas of the SDGs.
Tanzila Narbayeva also expressed hope that this resolution and its practical implementation will allow the parliaments of the countries of the world to be more actively involved in the development of programs, their consideration and approval for the implementation of SDG tasks.
At the end of the dialogue, the parties agreed to continue cooperation in the format of launching joint projects that will make it possible to timely communicate to the world community the progress and effectiveness of the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, as well as to popularize the experience of functioning of the Parliamentary Commission on SDGs of Uzbekistan among the parliaments of the IPU member countries.
