Uzbekistan introduces duty on import of medicines

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has introduced a customs duty of 2% on the import of pharmaceutical products.

The corresponding decree was signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to the document, in the section "duty rate (% of customs value)" for item 3004 (HS code covering pharmaceutical products), the figure "0" has been replaced with "2."

Starting from 1 April 2025, maximum retail markups in the pharmaceutical market will apply only to prescription medications.

At the same time, the system of reference (average) pricing for both domestic and imported drugs will continue to operate.

For wholesale trade, the maximum markup is set at 15% of the purchase price, while for retail trade, it is capped at 20%, regardless of the number of intermediaries in the supply chain.

Additionally, relevant authorities will review reference prices for imported drugs every six months if their cost increases by 3% due to changes in exchange rates. If prices rise by 5% or more, price adjustments will be made earlier.
