Uzbekistan introduces ban to export of PET waste, recycled materials

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is introducing a ban to export of waste and secondary materials from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from 1 September 2013.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a decree “On ordering export of secondary polymer raw materials” on 8 August 2013.

The document included waste, parings and waste of PET to the list of objects and products, exports of which are banned. The list was approved by presidential decree from 10 October 1997.

The ban for export of waste and secondary materials from PET is directed at further development of production of own goods with use PET materials.

The State Tax Committee of Uzbekistan was entrusted to set control over illegal exports of waste, parings and waste of PET.

The list of objects and products, exports of which are banned in Uzbekistan, includes another 11 positions:

1. Grains: wheat, rye, barley, oats, rice, corn, buckwheat;
2. Bakery products (except confectionery, cakes and biscuits of own production);
3. Flour;
4. Livestock, poultry;
5. Meat and edible meat sub-products, edible poultry sub-products;
6. Sugar;
7. Antiquities (paintings, sculptures, etc.), representing a significant artistic, historical, scientific or cultural value;
8. Vegetable oils;
9. Raw leathers (including non-standard), furs, including karakul (including non-standard);
10. Waste and scrap of non-ferrous metals;
11. Silkworm cocoons suitable for reeling, non-woven raw silk, silk waste (including cocoons unsuitable for reeling, yarn waste and cocoon loosened waste).
