Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 18 October, a meeting was held with the leadership of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) represented by Operations Director S. von Friedeburg and Vice President D. Baker.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, during the dialogue the results of developing cooperation were highly appreciated, bearing in mind the successful holding of the first international tender in the history of Uzbekistan within the Scaling Solar program and the final agreement with the emirate company Mubadala Utilities on the privatization and modernization project Talimarjan TPP achieved with the direct assistance of IFC.
They discussed the prospects of involving IFC in developing a local strategy for establishing links between attracted foreign direct investment and local small and medium enterprises, introducing modern methods of statistical reporting on indicators of the country's socio-economic development in accordance with best international practices (UNCTAD, OECD), and conducting diagnostics economic potential of the country's regions, analysis of the market for goods and the development of appropriate recommendations for expanding access and the private sector in the commodity markets.
IFC’s participation in the development of systemically important documents at the national level, such as the Law on Currency Regulation, the Law on Private Investments, the Customs Code, and the Civil Code, was correlated with each other and with the country's main economic growth strategy.
The partners also expressed interest in expanding cooperation both in the consulting sphere and through independent investment, in connection with which mechanisms for partnership with the Uzbek-Omani investment company, a joint company Abu-Dhabi Uzbek Investment and the Direct Investment Fund were discussed.
Following the meeting, an agreement was signed on the provision of consultancy services regarding tenders for the development of up to 900 MW of solar energy through public-private partnership projects in Uzbekistan
