Uzbekistan Has 460,000 Active Enterprises and Organizations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As of 1 October 2025, there were 460.3 thousand active enterprises and organizations operating in Uzbekistan, according to the National Statistics Committee. The majority—390.3 thousand, or 84.8 percent—are small enterprises and microfirms.
Regionally, the highest concentration of active business entities is found in Tashkent city (22.9 percent), followed by Tashkent region (9.7 percent), Samarkand region (8.6 percent), Fergana region (8.0 percent), and Kashkadarya region (6.4 percent). The largest share of business entities in the total number of enterprises is recorded in Tashkent city (90.4 percent), Navoi region (88.0 percent), Khorezm region (87.3 percent), and Tashkent region (87.1 percent).
By type of economic activity, trade remains the leading sector, accounting for 32.5 percent of all active enterprises. Industry ranks second with 12.6 percent, while agriculture, forestry, and fisheries account for 7.2 percent. Together, these three sectors make up more than half of all operating enterprises in the country.
Of the 394.3 thousand commercial enterprises, 308.0 thousand (78.1 percent) are limited liability companies, making this the most common organizational and legal form of business in Uzbekistan.
The share of active enterprises with foreign investment remains traditionally high in the capital, where Tashkent accounts for 63.8 percent of them. Among the regions, the largest shares are observed in Tashkent region (12.6 percent), Samarkand region (3.7 percent), and Fergana region (3.4 percent). Over the past five years, the total number of enterprises with foreign participation has increased 1.8 times, while the share of wholly foreign-owned companies rose from 53.7 percent to 75.9 percent. As of October 1, 2025, Uzbekistan had 17,188 enterprises with foreign investment, including 4,134 joint ventures and 13,054 wholly foreign-owned enterprises.
Over the past year, the number of active enterprises with foreign investment increased by 2,287, or 15.3 percent, mainly due to growth in the trade (from 5,295 to 6,134), industry (from 3,234 to 3,579), and construction (from 1,079 to 1,322) sectors.
China leads all countries by the number of investing enterprises, with 4,570 companies, accounting for 26.6 percent of all enterprises with foreign investment. It is followed by Russia (18.3 percent), Türkiye (11.9 percent), Kazakhstan (6.8 percent), South Korea (4.0 percent), and Afghanistan (3.6 percent).
The data reflect the steady growth of entrepreneurship and the active inflow of foreign investment into Uzbekistan’s economy, particularly in key sectors such as trade, industry, and construction.
