Uzbekistan explores cooperation with British Bank Standard Chartered

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 28 January, a meeting was held between Saif Malik, CEO of British bank Standard Chartered, and Jamshid Kuchkarov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan.

Standard Chartered is one of the world’s leading banks, operating in over 60 countries, with a primary focus on emerging markets in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. The bank provides services in trade and investment, corporate and private banking, and is actively involved in issuing green bonds and financing environmental projects, as well as supporting education and economic development programs.

During the meeting, the parties discussed expanding infrastructure projects, modernizing Uzbekistan’s power grid, implementing public-private partnership (PPP) initiatives, and transforming state-owned enterprises. They also reviewed financial market trends, cooperation with Uzbek banks, and the role of financial institutions in fostering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and agriculture.

Additionally, discussions covered the energy sector, with a focus on increasing energy efficiency through the adoption of green energy and renewable resources, promoting the green economy and sustainable growth, as well as advancing information technologies.

Following the negotiations, both sides agreed to enhance cooperation and strengthen the exchange of expertise in various sectors.
