Uzbekistan Establishes First Internationally Accredited Halal Certification Body
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — For the first time, Uzbekistan has established a Halal certification body with international accreditation.
The state institution Uzbek Scientific-Testing and Quality Control Center (UzTest) under the Ministry of Health received accreditation from the Halal Accreditation Authority (HAA) of Turkey, becoming the country’s first official Halal certification body. The information is published on HAA’s official website.
Accreditation was carried out in accordance with the international standard OIC/SMIIC 2:2019, “Conformity Assessment: Requirements for Halal Certification Bodies.” This status opens new opportunities for Uzbek organizations operating under Halal standards and facilitates access to international markets.
Halal certification plays a key role in exports, especially to member states of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), helping to overcome technical barriers and increase consumer trust.
Experts note that the Halal sector is among the fastest-growing segments of the global economy: the food and beverage industry amounts to around US$2 trillion, while religious tourism accounts for US$400 billion.
The establishment of an accredited Halal certification body in Uzbekistan is an important step toward integrating the country into international standards and significantly enhancing the competitiveness of Uzbek products on the global market.
