Uzbekistan establishes diplomatic relations with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Saint Vincent and the Grenadines became the 140th country with which Uzbekistan established diplomatic relations, Dunyo news agency reported.

On 10 May, in the city of New York, a Joint Communiqué was signed on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

On behalf of the governments of the two countries, the document was signed by the Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN, Ambassador Bakhtiyor Ibragimov and the Permanent Representative of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to the UN Inga Rhonda King.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a British Commonwealth country located in the western Caribbean. The country actively participates in the activities of the UN, in 2020-2021 it was a non-permanent member of the Security Council, and in 2018-2019 it was the chairman of the Economic and Social Council of the organization (ECOSOC).

The parties confirmed their interest in strengthening joint work within the framework of international organizations, including the UN and its specialized agencies. An agreement was reached to maintain regular contacts on topical issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda.

Following the signing ceremony of the joint communique, the Permanent Representative of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to the UN, Ms. Inga Rhonda King, gave a short video interview to the Dunyo news agency and shared her assessments of the modern development of Uzbekistan:

“Today is a special day for my little country, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. A few minutes ago, we signed a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Republic of Uzbekistan. This is a historic event. Our nations are far apart geographically, with different cultures and religions, but they are connected by the now established diplomatic ties, which symbolize the true spirit of the United Nations.

I have been in New York as a diplomat for almost 9 years and I want to emphasize that I have witnessed the dynamic development of Uzbekistan especially over the past five years, including its active participation and deep involvement in UN processes. It is a great honor for me, as a representative of my country, to sign a joint communiqué with my colleague from Uzbekistan on the establishment of diplomatic relations.

We admire the large-scale work carried out by Uzbekistan in all areas and are proud to be friends and partners who have formalized today. We will work closely together for a better world and a brighter future. Once again, I sincerely congratulate everyone on this significant event.”

It should be noted that the signing of the document was an important step to enhance the interaction of Uzbekistan with the Caribbean countries.

On 9 March 2022, our country established diplomatic relations with the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
