Uzbekistan Dominates Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament in Sofia
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Uzbekistan national boxing team delivered a commanding performance at the Strandja Memorial International Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria, finishing atop the overall medal standings in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
The prestigious competition, which ran from 22 February to 1 March, featured a elite field of international competitors, further solidifying Uzbekistan's status as a global powerhouse in amateur boxing.
The Uzbek men’s squad secured the team title with an impressive haul of three gold, two silver, and four bronze medals. Not to be outdone, the women’s team also claimed the top spot in their standings, finishing the tournament with four gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. In the final aggregate rankings, Kazakhstan followed in second place, while Ukraine rounded out the top three.
Individual gold medals for the men’s team were claimed by Fazliddin Erkinboev (75kg), Akmaljon Isroilov (85kg), and Turabek Khabibullaev (90kg). On the women’s side, the champions included Sabina Bobokulova (48kg), Nigina Uktamova (57kg), Navbakhor Khamidova (65kg), and Aziza Zokirova (75kg).
Silver medals were awarded to Javokhir Ummataliev (80kg) and Ozodbek Aliev (+90kg) in the men’s draw, while Feruza Kazakova (51kg) and Oltinoy Sotimboeva (+90kg) took second-place honors in the women’s competition.
Uzbekistan’s podium presence was bolstered by several bronze medalists. Asilbek Jalilov (50kg), Shavkatjon Boltaev (70kg), Norbek Abdullaev (85kg), and Samir Sobirov (90kg) earned bronze for the men, while Farzona Fozilova (48kg) and Rukhshona Parpieva (80kg) secured third-place finishes for the women’s team.
