Uzbekistan Discusses Possible Accession to the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 28 January, First Deputy Minister of Mining and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan Feruza Khamidova met with Presidential Adviser Suma Chakrabarti and members of his expert group.
During the talks, the parties exchanged views on the work carried out and the prospects for Uzbekistan’s potential accession to the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).
The discussions specifically addressed the outcomes of a visit to Uzbekistan by a delegation led by EITI Chair Helen Clark, as well as the results of the meetings and consultations held during that visit.
Suma Chakrabarti expressed appreciation for the constructive cooperation and consistent measures undertaken by the Ministry of Mining and Geology in considering Uzbekistan’s potential membership in EITI.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on the importance of continuing systematic work in this area through close collaboration with relevant ministries and agencies, the Presidential Adviser’s expert group, and the international EITI organization.
