Uzbekistan Discusses Economic Cooperation and WTO Accession with the United States
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Azizbek Urunov, the Presidential Representative of Uzbekistan on WTO matters and chief negotiator, held a meeting with James Greer, the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).
According to Urunov, the meeting focused on ways to further develop economic cooperation between the two countries.
Particular attention was given to Uzbekistan’s process of accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Azizbek Urunov highlighted USTR’s support for Uzbekistan’s market-oriented reforms and expressed the country’s goal of completing the accession process next year.
The parties agreed to continue working on the issues discussed and to prepare steps for the further deepening of bilateral cooperation.
In addition, during his visit to Washington, Urunov met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Caleb Orr.
The discussions covered priority areas of cooperation under the agreements reached during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to the United States, as well as next steps for implementing projects through the Uzbekistan–U.S. Business and Investment Council.
