Uzbekistan Delegation Takes Part in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 12 to 15 January, a delegation of the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan took part in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), held in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi.
As part of the event, Alisher Salomov, Adviser to the Chair of the Committee, held a series of bilateral meetings aimed at advancing practical cooperation in the fields of ecology and sustainable development.
During the visit, a meeting was held with Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, Managing Director of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi. The parties discussed the implementation of environmental protection and biodiversity conservation programs, reviewed ongoing projects, and reached agreements on expanding joint initiatives in sustainable natural resource management and environmental protection.
Particular attention was paid to the exchange of best practices and advanced technologies. The Emirati side expressed readiness to support promising projects in water resource management, restoration of degraded lands, and the development of green energy.
A separate segment of discussions focused on waste management and the introduction of environmental technologies. In particular, during a meeting with Fahad Shehail, Group CEO of Beeah Group, opportunities were explored to expand cooperation in sustainable development and implement joint projects in Uzbekistan.
A practical outcome of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Agency for Waste Management and Circular Economy Development and Bell Energy. The document was signed during a meeting with the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Haitham Hussein, and is aimed at advancing projects in the energy sector and the circular economy.
Education and scientific cooperation also featured prominently at ADSW. At a meeting with Dr. Ebrahim Al Hajri, President and Chief Executive Officer of Khalifa University, the parties discussed prospects for collaboration in education, research and innovation, including capacity building for environmental projects and the exchange of expertise in sustainable development.
Talks were also held with Professor Ghassan Aouad, Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University, focusing on the development of academic cooperation, modernization of educational programs, and the implementation of joint initiatives in environmental education.
As part of the discussions, joint projects were proposed with the Central Asian University of Environment and Climate Change (Green University), including the launch of English-language dual-degree programs, academic exchanges, international promotion of the university, and the attraction of foreign students.
The participation of the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s commitment to active international cooperation, the adoption of advanced environmental solutions, and the strengthening of partnerships with leading international institutions and companies in the field of sustainable development.
