Uzbekistan Considers Raising Import Duties on Transformers, Cables, and Semiconductors
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan may increase customs duties on the import of transformers, cables, and semiconductors as part of measures to support the domestic electrical engineering industry.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved a set of measures for sector development, including partial compensation of interest expenses on loans provided to enterprises for copper procurement.
According to the presidential decree, the Interagency Commission on Cooperation with the World Trade Organization, chaired by Vice Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev, is required to conduct a detailed analysis within 10 days of exports of copper wire semifinished products and other copper goods, as well as imports of products classified under HS codes 8504 (electrical transformers), 8541 (semiconductor devices), and 8544 (insulated wires and cables).
If necessary, the commission will introduce temporary changes to customs duty rates. These changes will not affect goods processed within the customs territory. The deadline for completing the assignment is set for the end of October.
