Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- During a meeting at the UN headquarters in New York on Wednesday, Uzbekistan was elected a member of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the period from 2023 to 2026 year. This was reported by the Dunya news agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic.
Providing Uzbekistan with the opportunity to participate in the work of this key UN body is a confirmation of the international community’s broad support for ongoing measures in the field of science and technology development, the report said.
According to local experts, the active involvement of Uzbekistan in the activities of the commission as a member will allow to get acquainted with the accumulated experience and best practices in developing, planning and forecasting the most important global trends in science, technology and innovation.
Elected members of the commission, including Uzbekistan, will begin their work in its composition from 1 January 2023.
Earlier the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted the importance of developing and implementing priority areas for the development of science and technology in the country.
