Uzbekistan Approves Rules for Radiation Source Safety
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Justice has registered the “Rules for Ensuring the Safety of Radiation Sources” (registration number 3695, October 28, 2025).
The document sets out procedures for securing radiation sources that are not part of nuclear installations, including newly constructed and reconstructed facilities across Uzbekistan.
According to the rules, operating organizations must use radiation sources strictly in accordance with design and technical documentation and maintain them in proper working condition.
They are also required to implement measures to protect the public in the event of emergencies or accidents.
If deviations from project requirements occur, organizations must identify and eliminate their causes, maintain control over technical systems, and ensure the automatic activation of safety systems.
A multi-level protection program, incorporating organizational measures and technical solutions, must be developed according to the potential hazard level of the radiation sources.
Designs for radiation sources should include reliability analyses of automatic safety systems, possible accident scenarios, and their consequences. Any identified malfunctions must be rectified in accordance with the project documentation.
