Uzbekistan Approves Procedure for Reimbursing Dormitory Expenses for Students
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Government of Uzbekistan has approved a new regulation establishing the procedure for reimbursing dormitory expenses for certain categories of students in state higher education institutions.
According to the document, reimbursement of accommodation costs is provided from the state budget and applies to students of public universities who study exclusively in full-time programs, regardless of whether they are on government grants or paying tuition fees under a contract.
Eligibility for reimbursement is granted for 12 months from the date the student’s family is classified as a “borderline poor family” in the Social Registry. Students entitled to compensation are given priority placement in dormitories without waiting in line.
Applications must be submitted to the rector (or director of a branch) of the university by the 7th day of the month, or independently through the commission on the portal kontrakt.edu.uz. Applications are submitted once per academic year. Deputy deans for student affairs consolidate electronic applications within one day and forward them to the commission, which also reviews and decides on the requests within one day.
The regulation also introduces amendments to certain government decisions regarding admission rules for programs where a foreign language is designated as the primary subject. The required language proficiency for admission must now be at least B1 according to nationally or internationally recognized standards. Applicants with a B1 certificate receive 75% of the maximum score for the subject, while those with B2 or higher certificates receive the full score. Previously, admission required a certificate of at least B2 level.
