Uzbekistan and UN System Discuss Expanding Cultural Cooperation in New York
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a visit to New York, Gayane Umerova, Chairperson of the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, held talks with Movses Abelian, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management.
The discussions focused on strengthening institutional cooperation with the UN system and aligning Uzbekistan’s cultural initiatives with the current multilateral international agenda.
Both sides highlighted the successful hosting of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand, which served as an important international platform for discussions on culture, education, and the preservation of historical and cultural heritage.
The meeting also explored promising areas for further cooperation. In particular, the participants discussed the development of the creative economy in partnership with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, as well as the implementation of the Aral School educational initiative jointly with the United Nations Development Programme.
Following the talks, the parties expressed interest in expanding practical cooperation and advancing joint projects aimed at strengthening the region’s cultural and educational potential.
