Uzbekistan and UN-Habitat discuss sustainable development and Urbanization
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of the Samarkand Climate Forum, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Ilkhom Norkulov held a meeting with the Executive Director of the UN-Habitat Program, Ana-Claudia Rossbach.
Representatives from the Ministry’s Department for Coordination of the Transition to a Green Economy and Development also participated in the negotiations.
The meeting focused on issues related to the sustainable development of Uzbekistan’s regions, the development of master plans, and the expansion of cooperation in the field of urbanization. The parties discussed priority areas for bilateral cooperation, including the creation of comprehensive master plans, supporting sustainable development of territories, introducing eco-friendly approaches in urban construction, and sharing experiences in urban environment management.
Ministry representatives expressed interest in receiving expert and technical assistance from UN-Habitat to implement national sustainable development strategies. In response, UN-Habitat representatives confirmed their readiness for active cooperation and proposed several initiatives, including joint training sessions and analytical support.
UN-Habitat is also prepared to send specialists in territorial planning and development, as well as conduct preliminary work to identify specific projects and activities for the implementation of practical steps.
These negotiations marked an important step in strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and UN-Habitat in territorial development and urbanization aimed at achieving sustainable and inclusive outcomes.
