Uzbekistan and Türkiye: Sharing experience in urban planning

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During the internship program for mayors, a delegation from Uzbekistan held a series of working meetings with representatives from Turkish municipalities and businesses aimed at studying best practices in urban planning and industrial development.

The delegation was headed by Bobur Bekmurodov, the chairman of the "Yuksalish" movement and the chairman of the Committee of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.

According to "Yuksalish," the visit included a meeting with the mayor of Gebze, Zinnur Büyükgöz, where current trends in urban development and urbanization were discussed. Key topics included the digitalization of urban management, the development of the "smart cities" concept, and the integration of industrial zones into the urban environment.

The delegation was presented with the experience of the Gebze industrial zone, including effective management models for industrial clusters, mechanisms for supporting small and medium-sized businesses, and strategies for attracting investment. The meeting was attended by the president of the Gebze industrial zone, Alp Çelikbilek, and the president of the Gebze Chamber of Commerce, Abdürrahman Aslantaş.

These meetings marked an important step in strengthening Uzbek-Turkish cooperation in urbanism, industrial development, and the implementation of innovative solutions. The delegation included the mayors of Navoi, Shakhrisabz, Samarkand, Fergana, and the Yangi-Namangan district, all of whom are members of the Council of Municipalities of the Turkic World.

The Union of Municipalities of the Turkic World (TDBB) was founded on 12 November 2003, with the aim of fostering cooperation in urban governance among Turkic-speaking countries united by historical, cultural, and geographical values. Today, the Union comprises about 1,200 municipalities from 30 countries.

The experience gained during the internship will serve as the foundation for developing plans to implement modern standards in urban development, improve the quality of life for citizens, and create favorable conditions for active business operations.
