Uzbekistan and the World Bank Discuss Sustainable Development and Joint Projects

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 5 December, First Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Norqulov held a meeting in Tashkent with Sameh Wahba, the World Bank’s Regional Director for Sustainable Development in Europe and Central Asia.

The meeting was also attended by the World Bank’s Regional Director for Central Asia, Naveed Hassan Naqvi, the Bank’s Program Coordinator in Uzbekistan, Anastasia Alexandrova, as well as senior representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

During the talks, the parties reviewed the current status of joint projects, the results achieved so far, promising areas for cooperation, and opportunities to expand the scope of engagement.

Special attention was given to the development of agriculture through the introduction of modern practices, the modernization of irrigation systems, the efficient use of water resources, and the rehabilitation of canals to ensure sustainable water supply for irrigated lands.

The discussions also covered the development of regional water supply and wastewater treatment systems, as well as the creation of a sustainable air-pollution control system incorporating green infrastructure solutions.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen cooperation, enhance the exchange of views in the outlined areas, and continue systematic, results-oriented work to achieve the agreed goals.
