Uzbekistan and the World Bank discuss expansion of the Better Work Uzbekistan program

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 16 October, on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, a meeting was held between representatives of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank Group, the Better Work program, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan Jamshid Kuchkarov.

The meeting was attended by Wagner Albuquerque de Almeida, IFC’s Global Director for Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Forestry; Larissa Louie, Director for Environmental and Social Risk at the World Bank Group; Rupa Nair, Director of the Better Work Program; and other senior officials.

During the discussions, the parties addressed the development of mutual cooperation and the implementation of activities under the Better Work program.

Special attention was given to the expansion of the Better Work Uzbekistan program, including its geographic and sectoral coverage, the involvement of new enterprises, and the training and upskilling of workers in the industry.

The sides also discussed new initiatives aimed at further developing the light industry, particularly the textile sector.

At the conclusion of the talks, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further cooperation within the Better Work Uzbekistan framework, to expanding international knowledge exchange, and to establishing a permanent dialogue mechanism.
