Uzbekistan and the World Bank discuss expanding cooperation and economic development priorities
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 10 April, a meeting took place between the World Bank delegation, led by Managing Director for Operations Anna Bjerde, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Kuchkarov.
At the beginning of the meeting, the sides exchanged views on global economic processes, the sustainability of economic growth, the impact of current trends such as artificial intelligence on increasing labor productivity, job creation, and the attraction of innovative solutions.
Special attention was given to the role of the World Trade Organization as a tool for expanding trade opportunities and integration into the global economy.
One of the central topics of discussion was job creation in key sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, tourism, and industrial production. This area was identified as one of the priorities in the current socio-economic development agenda of Uzbekistan.
The participants also discussed in detail the outcomes and prospects for implementing economic reforms in the country. Issues addressed included measures to ensure macroeconomic stability, effective fiscal policy, and inflation management within the established targets.
The discussion also covered results and further steps in public-private partnerships in infrastructure projects, transformation of state-owned enterprises, privatization of assets, increasing energy efficiency, and creating an environmentally sustainable heating system.
Special emphasis was placed on supporting the private sector and developing transport and logistics infrastructure, which is seen as a key factor in attracting investment and accelerating economic growth.
World Bank representatives highly appreciated Uzbekistan’s efforts in implementing reforms and achieving macroeconomic stability. In turn, the Uzbek side expressed readiness to further deepen the partnership and expand the exchange of experience in strategic areas.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue constructive dialogue and strengthen cooperation to effectively implement joint initiatives and achieve sustainable socio-economic outcomes.
