Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 18-19 October 2022, at the invitation of the Government of Tajikistan and the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Norov takes part in a high-level conference on "International and regional cooperation on border security in counter-terrorism and to prevent the cross-border movement of terrorists”.
On the sidelines of the conference on 18 October, a meeting was held with the UN Under-Secretary-General - Head of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov.
The current state and prospects for the development of cooperation to ensure peace and security in Central Asia, including within the framework of the Joint Action Plan for the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, were discussed.
During the conversation, the parties noted that the high-level international conference organized on 3-4 March 2022 in Tashkent on the implementation of this strategy in Central Asia made it possible to agree on general principles and approaches to combating terrorism, taking into account the changing international socio-political and socio-economic environment in the region.
A number of important documents were adopted during the high-level international conference "Regional cooperation of the countries of Central Asia within the framework of the Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy".
Among them are the Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in the new edition, as well as the Tashkent Declaration, which confirmed the commitment of the Central Asian states to cooperation within the framework of the new action plan.
As a result of the meeting, a "Road Map" was signed, which includes initiatives and proposals put forward during the Tashkent conference and defines priority areas for bilateral cooperation.
It was emphasized that the document will contribute to raising cooperation to a qualitatively new level and enrich it with practical content.
The Roadmap involves the organization of high-level joint events, the creation of a virtual network to counter cyberterrorism in Central Asia, the exchange of experience on the effective use of local communities (mahallas) in the rehabilitation and reintegration of repatriates, the creation of a regional expert council on this issue under the auspices of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office and other activities.
In particular, in order to promote the ideas and principles of tolerance, interreligious and intercultural dialogue with the participation of all sectors of society, in 2023 Uzbekistan is planning to hold a high-level conference “Enlightenment and Religious Tolerance” under the auspices of the UN.
