Uzbekistan and the IMF agree to strengthen cooperation in macroeconomic stability

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 24 April of this year, within the framework of the Annual Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), a meeting was held between Jihad Azour, Director of the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia Department, and Jamshid Kuchkarov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The meeting was also attended by Athanasios Arvanitis, Deputy Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department of the IMF, Timur Ishmetov, Chairman of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and other senior officials.

During the talks, the parties discussed the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan aimed at ensuring economic growth, particularly measures to maintain macroeconomic stability, control inflation, manage the state budget effectively, and improve tax administration, as well as prospects for expanding cooperation in these areas.

Additionally, the parties exchanged views on public finance management, the development of price statistics and the national accounts system, cooperation in the securities market, public debt management, and the application of advanced and successful international practices, including digital technologies, in the improvement of tax administration.

Following the discussions, the parties agreed to further develop bilateral cooperation and expand the exchange of views on the aforementioned issues.
