Uzbekistan and the ILO to Develop a Roadmap for Promoting Decent Work
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and Chair of the National Commission on Combating Human Trafficking and Ensuring Decent Work, Tanzila Narbayeva, held a meeting with Corinne Vargha, Director of the International Labour Standards Department at the International Labour Organization (ILO).
During the meeting, Uzbekistan’s consistent and systematic efforts in recent years to ratify international labor conventions were emphasized. To date, the country has ratified 25 ILO conventions and one protocol, affirming its commitment to strengthening workers’ rights and upholding its international obligations.
A key focus of the discussions was the upcoming development of a dedicated roadmap, which will be based on ILO recommendations following the current visit. It was noted that Uzbekistan is steadily implementing the objectives set out in its Decent Work Country Programme for 2021–2025, including the development of the labor inspectorate and improvements in labor rights monitoring systems.
Corinne Vargha praised Uzbekistan’s progress in ensuring labor rights and noted that the country has established itself as a reliable ILO partner, demonstrating strong adherence to international standards. She stated that Uzbekistan’s labor inspection system could already serve as a model for other nations, and the ILO remains fully committed to supporting Uzbekistan’s continued efforts in this field.
The parties also discussed prospects for promoting Uzbekistan’s positive experience on the international stage. In this context, special emphasis was placed on leveraging platforms such as the Central Asian Parliamentary Dialogue, women’s forums, and inter-union dialogues of regional trade union organizations to advance the principles of decent work and strengthen international cooperation in labor affairs.
