Uzbekistan and the EEC discuss deepening trade and economic ties
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 19 March, the headquarters of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) hosted a working meeting between Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Chairman of the EEC Board, and Botirjon Asadov, Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Russia.
The parties held a detailed discussion on prospects for further strengthening trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). A key focus of the talks was the implementation of the Joint Action Plan between the EEC and the Government of Uzbekistan for 2024–2026.
Bakytzhan Sagintayev emphasized that Uzbekistan is a key economic partner of the EAEU among CIS countries. According to him, the country’s foreign trade turnover with EAEU member states grew by 7.3% in 2024 compared to 2023, reaching $17.5 billion. The EAEU countries account for more than a quarter of Uzbekistan’s total foreign trade.
Special attention was given to the activities of the joint working group, established under a previously signed Memorandum of Cooperation between the EEC and the Government of Uzbekistan.
At the end of the meeting, Bakytzhan Sagintayev invited Uzbekistan’s delegation to participate in the Eurasian Economic Forum, the EAEU’s key business event, scheduled to take place in June 2025 in Minsk.
