Uzbekistan and South Korea deepen cooperation in railway technology
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Deputy Minister of Transport Jasurbek Choriev held a meeting with a delegation led by Lee Sung Hae, Director General of Korea National Railway.
The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in railway technologies and innovations aimed at further developing Uzbekistan’s railway system.
Particular emphasis was placed on the implementation of modern signaling systems, geolocation, and railway management technologies, as well as Korean navigation solutions that play a key role in ensuring the safety of high-speed trains on new railway projects planned in Uzbekistan.
Lee Sung Hae also provided updates on the ongoing development of the feasibility study for a proposed high-speed rail line between Tashkent and Samarkand. It is worth recalling that the Presidential Decree No. PP-329 of 10 October 2023 mandated the preparation of such a study.
As a result of the talks, an agreement was reached to jointly develop the feasibility study through a consortium of companies — Saman Engineering, Dong Myeong Engineering Consultants & Architecture Co., Ltd, Korea Railroad Corporation, and Korea National Railway — using grant funds from Korea Eximbank.
On 14 February of this year, during a meeting involving Korean companies, the necessary documents were signed, laying the groundwork for moving to the practical phase of the project’s feasibility study.
