Uzbekistan and South Korea agree to conduct joint criminological research
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 16–17 October, Seoul (Republic of Korea) hosted the 12th International Forum of the Korean Institute of Criminology and Justice (KICJIF), organized by the Korean Institute of Criminology and Justice (KICJ) under the theme “Strengthening International Cooperation in Combating Transnational Organized Crime.”
The forum discussed key aspects of international collaboration in countering modern types of crime, particularly organized crime, as well as opportunities to apply advanced technologies and artificial intelligence in this field.
Representatives of leading international organizations and research centers took part in the forum, including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI), the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ), the National Legal Institute of Mongolia, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Korea, the Korean National Police Agency (National Central Bureau of INTERPOL), Renmin University of China, the China University of Political Science and Law, Beijing Normal University, the Korean Association of Criminal Procedure Law, and Kyungpook National University.
The Research Institute of Criminology of the Republic of Uzbekistan also took an active part in the event.
The head of the Uzbek institute delivered a presentation highlighting ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan in the areas of crime prevention, law enforcement, development of international research cooperation, and engagement with global rankings and indices.
During the forum, participants were presented with Uzbekistan’s recent achievements and reforms in the national crime prevention system. As a result of the discussions, agreements were reached to implement joint research projects and further strengthen cooperation with international partners.
Additionally, the Uzbek delegation held talks on joining the Network of Institutes of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme.
Within the framework of the forum, an agreement was also reached with KICJ President Jeon Won Seok to implement a joint research and practical project titled “Comparative Study of Criminology in Uzbekistan and Korea.”
