Uzbekistan and Slovenia discuss expansion of trade, economic, and investment cooperation in Ljubljana

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 14–15 May 2025, a delegation led by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, held a series of bilateral Uzbek-Slovenian events in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana.

The meetings aimed to intensify trade, economic, and investment cooperation with Slovenia’s business community.

The visit’s agenda included talks with the Minister of Economy, Tourism and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia, Matjaž Han, as well as meetings with the management of SID Bank and a roundtable with the heads of major Slovenian companies.

During these events, Uzbekistan’s investment potential was presented, highlighting opportunities for developing industrial cooperation and preferential access to major regional markets. The two sides discussed various aspects of practical collaboration that could serve as a foundation for productive engagement between the business communities of both countries.

The Slovenian side praised the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan at both governmental and business levels, expressing strong interest in expanding cooperation across all areas of mutual interest and potential.

As a result of the talks, agreements were reached to increase mutual trade turnover to USD 500 million by diversifying and expanding the supply of goods such as textiles, fruits and vegetables, mineral fertilizers, plastics, non-ferrous metals, construction materials, pharmaceuticals, industrial equipment, and other high value-added products.

The sides also agreed on measures to establish large-scale clusters for the cultivation and processing of medicinal herbs, to launch joint production of pharmaceuticals and cosmetic products, and to develop training programs for Uzbek professionals in the pharmaceutical sector. In addition, both parties expressed intent to expedite the signing of an intergovernmental agreement on organized labor migration to facilitate the employment of Uzbek nurses and doctors in Slovenia.

Later the same day, the Uzbek delegation continued its working visit by traveling to Budapest.
