Uzbekistan and Shaanxi Province Prepare Joint Projects in Industry, Science, and Agriculture
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev met with Shaanxi Province Vice Governor Li Jiun to discuss preparations and key priorities for the 3rd Uzbekistan–China Interregional Forum, scheduled for 19–22 May in Xi’an.
Shaanxi, one of China’s leading industrial and scientific centers and a historic symbol of the Silk Road, will host the forum, which is expected to attract more than 2,000 participants from both countries. The program includes economic, trade, and investment sessions, an exhibition of Uzbek products, and thematic panels on science, innovation, agriculture, tourism, and women’s entrepreneurship.
The previous forum, held in June 2025 in Samarkand, gathered 2,500 business and government representatives. Fourteen agreements were signed, resulting in investment and trade deals worth US$10.2 billion. At the upcoming Xi’an event, the parties aim to advance the work of the joint working group and achieve substantial outcomes.
Practical aspects of cooperation were also discussed. In agriculture and food security, talks focused on developing arid lands and combating desertification. A priority project was identified to cultivate 110,000 hectares of new land in Jizzakh region.
Shaanxi’s industrial and innovation capacity is significant, with 34 priority sectoral chains under development. Both sides agreed to accelerate joint projects in mechanical engineering, new materials production, and green technologies, as well as cooperation among technoparks, industrial clusters, universities, and research institutes, including the creation of joint laboratories and workforce training programs. Particular emphasis will be placed on introducing digital and “smart” solutions in industry and urban management.
Khodjaev noted that combining Shaanxi’s industrial and scientific potential with Uzbekistan’s resources and capacities will create new growth points for mutually beneficial interregional partnerships.
