Uzbekistan and Russia Sign Over 30 Agreements Following the Meeting of the Council of Regions

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 22 October, the second meeting of the Council of Regions of Uzbekistan and Russia took place in the Moscow Region.

The Russian delegation was headed by First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, while the Uzbek side was led by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjayev.

The forum reaffirmed the high level of strategic partnership and allied relations between the two countries. Currently, 14 regions of Uzbekistan maintain stable cooperation with more than 50 regions of the Russian Federation, with a total portfolio of joint projects exceeding US$6.2 billion.

Opening the plenary session, First Deputy Chairman of the Government of Russia Denis Manturov read a welcoming message from the President of the Russian Federation addressed to the participants, organizers, and guests of the event.

The message notes, in particular, that relations between Russia and Uzbekistan are dynamically developing in the spirit of strategic partnership and alliance, with interregional cooperation remaining a significant component of these ties. The letter emphasizes that more than 40 interregional agreements are in effect, creating conditions for implementing joint economic, social, and humanitarian projects, establishing industrial parks and technology centers, and organizing exhibitions and presentations. The Council of Regions provides a platform for direct dialogue involving leaders of central and local authorities, entrepreneurs, experts, representatives of scientific circles, universities, and public organizations. The agenda of the current event addresses issues of industrial and agricultural cooperation, energy and e-commerce, transport and logistics, as well as culture and education.

The First Deputy Prime Minister noted that almost all Russian regions are already engaged in trade and economic interaction with their Uzbek counterparts. New trade houses and wholesale-distribution centers are being established in various regions, while previously opened ones continue to develop.

Denis Manturov stressed that comprehensive efforts at both the state and regional levels, combined with active business participation, are yielding tangible results. Since 2019, trade turnover between Russia and Uzbekistan has more than doubled, approaching one trillion rubles. Enterprises in both countries are advancing joint industrial projects, including the launch of plant protection chemical production in the Samarkand region and fiberglass production in the city of Nukus.

In turn, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev read a greeting from the President of the country, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, highlighting that the participation of regional leaders from Russia and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of business circles from both countries, clearly demonstrates the growing role of regions in strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation.

The meeting focused on the development of trade and economic cooperation, industrial partnership, collaboration in the agricultural sector, and the strengthening of cultural and humanitarian ties.

Particular attention was given to the prospects of e-commerce, the establishment of joint industrial enterprises and wholesale distribution centers, as well as the implementation of dual education programs aimed at training specialists in demand across both labor markets.

As a result of the meeting, more than thirty agreements were signed between the regions of Russia and Uzbekistan, covering trade, economic, scientific, technical, and humanitarian cooperation.

The event marked another step toward strengthening practical interregional cooperation and deepening partnership between the two nations.
