Uzbekistan and Russia Develop Independent and Resilient Transport Infrastructure
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan and Russia are focusing on the development of an independent and resilient transport infrastructure that is less exposed to external factors, Russia’s Trade Representative in Uzbekistan, Konstantin Zlygostev, said at the Sputnik Uzbekistan Multimedia Press Center.
According to him, priority is being given to multimodal transportation, the digitalization of customs procedures, and the creation of new logistics centers as well as warehousing and distribution hubs. “The emphasis is on building a more predictable and efficient transport system that will reduce dependence on external circumstances,” Zlygostev stressed.
He highlighted several key transport corridors. The first is the North–South corridor, a strategic route designed to diversify logistics chains and provide a stable outlet to southern ports. The second area involves strengthening routes through Kazakhstan, including increasing their throughput capacity, with active cooperation among Russia, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan.
Special attention is also being paid to the development of multimodal logistics based on new centers in Uzbekistan, including projects linked to Russian e-commerce platforms.
In the longer term, discussions are also under way on a Trans-Afghan corridor which, if implemented, would provide direct access to Pakistani ports, opening up opportunities to reach the markets of India and other South Asian countries.
Zlygostev noted that the comprehensive development of these routes would strengthen the transport systems of both countries and enhance the resilience of regional logistics.
