Uzbekistan and Pakistan Reach Agreement on Transport Infrastructure and Transit Routes
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan and Pakistan have reached agreements on transport and logistics cooperation, the press service of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport reported.
The Uzbek delegation, led by First Deputy Minister of Transport Mamanbiy Omarov, arrived in Pakistan on the eve of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s official visit.
During talks with Pakistani counterparts, the parties discussed transit transportation, infrastructure development, and creating favorable conditions for business.
Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs of Pakistan Umar Zafar Sheikh and Chairman of the Port of Karachi Shahid Ahmed held joint consultations with the Uzbek delegation on organizing efficient cargo shipments through Pakistan’s seaports. Specifically, Uzbek investors are expected to receive certain incentives, and an agreement was reached on constructing warehouse complexes for Uzbek goods in Karachi.
Additionally, the Uzbek delegation met with Pakistan’s Deputy Minister of Railways Mazhar Ali Shah. During the discussions, the parties agreed to begin field studies necessary for developing the feasibility study for the planned “Uzbekistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan Railway,” also known as the Trans-Afghan Corridor.
The creation of a new transport corridor, “Pakistan–China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan,” was also discussed. Talks with Deputy Minister of Communications Ali Shah Masud concluded with an agreement to carry out pilot cargo shipments along this route by the end of February 2026.
The agreements reached open new opportunities for integrating the regional transport network and expanding Uzbekistan’s transit potential.
