Uzbekistan and Pakistan discuss measures for cooperation in the field of regional security

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov met with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, General Nadim Raza, in Rawalpindi.

During the meeting, the parties stressed the high level of strategic partnership between the two countries and expressed their readiness for further interaction to strengthen cooperation in order to ensure security and stability in the region. In this vein, aspects of Uzbek-Pakistani cooperation in the field of countering international terrorism, extremism and ensuring regional security were considered.

The agenda also included the current state of the economic partnership. Practical cooperation in the transport and communications sector was designated as one of the priority areas, bearing in mind the implementation of joint projects aimed at developing transport corridors connecting Uzbekistan and Pakistan. It was noted that effective joint work in this area will become a key factor that positively affects the interconnectedness of the economies of the two countries.

As a result of the meeting, mutual commitment was expressed to continue the bilateral dialogue, and further steps were identified to promote cooperation in priority areas.
