Uzbekistan and Malaysia to cooperate in the field of criminal justice
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a law ratifying the Treaty between the governments of Uzbekistan and Malaysia on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
The document was signed on 8 June 2023, in Tashkent following a meeting between Uzbekistan’s Prosecutor General Nigmatilla Yuldashev and Malaysia’s First Deputy Attorney General Ahmad Terrirudin bin Mohd Salleh.
The treaty establishes the legal framework and conditions for cooperation in criminal investigations and procedural actions. It outlines the requirements for the form and content of requests, the procedure for their execution, grounds for refusing assistance, as well as restrictions on the use of obtained data and evidence.
One of the key aspects of the agreement is cooperation in identifying and locating wanted individuals. Specifically, if the requesting party has reasonable grounds to believe that a wanted person is on the territory of the other state, the receiving party is obligated to take all necessary measures to locate the individual in accordance with national legislation.
