Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Rahim Hakimov, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, received a delegation led by Edgars Korchagins, Head of the State Audit Office of the Republic of Latvia.

At the beginning of the meeting, the guests were provided with detailed information on bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Latvia, including the stable development of interparliamentary cooperation in recent years, the activities of the Legislative Chamber, its committees and commissions, as well as the legislative process in Uzbekistan.

During the dialogue, Edgars Korchagins emphasized that a reliable and constructive partnership between Uzbekistan and Latvia serves as a strong foundation for further deepening bilateral ties. He also praised the reforms underway in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Korchagins noted the similarities in the functions and structures of the supreme audit institutions in both countries, stating: “Our audit agencies are also accountable to Parliament. The Chief Auditor and council members are appointed by Parliament.”

The meeting highlighted that practical cooperation between the State Audit Office of Latvia and the Accounts Chamber of Uzbekistan has reached a new level. Notably, in 2024, a Cooperation Agreement and a Joint Action Program for the next three years were signed during meetings held in Tashkent.

The dialogue also covered experience-sharing in financial auditing, developing proposals to improve legislation in this area, evaluating the effectiveness of the existing financial system, and other areas of joint work.

The Latvian delegation head also praised Uzbekistan’s reforms to enhance the role and participation of women in parliamentary and government leadership.

“In recent years, special attention has been given to raising the status and influence of women. Almost 40 percent of parliamentary members are women, and their activity in leadership positions is growing — this is very encouraging. In this regard, we can learn a lot from your experience,” he noted.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations, improve audit legislation, exchange expertise, and continue practical cooperation.
