Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 12 May 2025, the fifth meeting of the Interparliamentary Cooperation Commission between the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic was held in Samarkand.

The session focused on assessing the current state and future prospects of Uzbek-Kyrgyz relations, with particular emphasis on strengthening interparliamentary cooperation as a key instrument of bilateral engagement.

Participants discussed ways to expand the use of parliamentary diplomacy to deepen trade and economic ties, attract investment, and enhance cultural and humanitarian exchanges between the two nations.

Co-chair of the Commission, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Sodik Safoev, emphasized that thanks to the political will of the leaders of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, a solid foundation of mutual trust has been established in recent years. Under these conditions, national parliaments are playing an increasingly important role as drivers of the strategic course of bilateral cooperation.

The importance of parliamentary support for efforts to unlock the tourism potential of both countries was also emphasized, including the development of cross-border tourist routes, simplifying travel procedures, and encouraging investment in tourism infrastructure.

The parliamentarians voiced unanimous support for deepening the bilateral partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening interparliamentary dialogue as an effective mechanism for promoting good-neighborly relations and safeguarding the interests of the peoples of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

At the conclusion of the event, the heads of the parliamentary delegations symbolically planted a tree at the Alley of Honorary Guests at the Samarkand Congress Center.
