Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan Strengthen Environmental Cooperation in Central Asia
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 19 June 2025, the international exhibition Eco Expo Central Asia 2025 was officially opened in Tashkent by Aziz Abdukhakimov, Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Yerlan Nysanbayev, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event brought together representatives of government agencies, the business community, academia, and NGOs from across Central Asia, becoming a key platform for promoting the green agenda and strengthening interstate cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
Within the framework of the exhibition, Kazakhstan presented a national pavilion organized with the support of its Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. A central feature of the exposition was the International Centre for Green Technologies and Investment Projects (ICGTIP), which took an active part in both the exhibition and expert forums.
Kazakhstan’s display showcased concrete measures for implementing national sustainable development strategies, including the transition to a circular economy, the adoption of renewable energy sources, the advancement of green technologies, and the reduction of environmental impact.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Yerlan Nysanbayev emphasized that the launch of the exhibition symbolizes the shared commitment of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to building a long-term environmental partnership. He highlighted the importance of regional collaboration in sharing best practices, developing innovative solutions, and implementing joint green initiatives.
On the opening day of the expo, ICGTIP organized a panel session titled "Green Acceleration: Experience of GCIP-Kazakhstan and Prospects for Sustainable Entrepreneurship in Central Asia", which presented Kazakhstan’s experience with the Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP). The program, implemented in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), supports startups in clean technologies, energy efficiency, waste recycling, and renewable energy.
During the session, several projects were introduced:
FACEPLATE – a suite of digital tools for environmental risk monitoring and management in industry;
Murat Beton Technology – innovative solutions in the production of environmentally safe construction materials;
A discussion on the development of a regional startup ecosystem focused on sustainable development and cross-border cooperation.
The session served as an important forum for constructive dialogue among government officials, private sector representatives, investors, and technology developers. Special emphasis was placed on creating conditions for scaling up environmental innovations and fostering an enabling environment for green entrepreneurship across the region.
Kazakhstan’s active participation in Eco Expo Central Asia 2025 underscores its commitment to fostering a pragmatic, forward-looking environmental partnership in Central Asia.
The initiatives and projects presented reflect the country’s broader strategic direction toward technological transformation, ecological modernization of the economy, and the development of sustainable solutions that support socio-economic growth while preserving environmental balance.
