Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan Expand Rail Freight Transportation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — JSC “Uzbekistan Railways” and JSC “NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” have agreed to expand railway cooperation for the transportation of grain and food cargo.

On 7 December 2025, a meeting of representatives from both countries took place at the Saryagash junction point. The Uzbek delegation included Ilhom Mahkamov, Minister of Transport, Kahramon Yuldashev, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, and Zufar Narzullaev, Chairman of the Board of “Uzbekistan Railways.” The Kazakh delegation included Yermek Kenzhekhanuly, Chairman of the Board of JSC “NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” and First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan.

The parties agreed to increase the daily exchange of trains to 35 pairs. Uzbekistan will receive at least 10 grain trains in grain wagons and 5 trains carrying food products in covered wagons daily.

Round-the-clock operation of authorized bodies and unloading tracks will also be ensured on weekends and holidays.

To balance the loading and unloading of grain cargo, export transportation planning will take into account available capacity at recipients in Uzbekistan, as well as an agreed rotation of empty wagons.

These measures will stabilize logistics chains and ensure timely delivery of Kazakh grain to the Uzbek market and other countries in the region.

According to data, over the first 11 months of 2025, the volume of freight transported between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan reached 28.5 million tons, an increase of 16% compared to the same period last year. Grain transportation grew by 32%, reaching 5.6 million tons.
