Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan Agree to Intensify Parliamentary Cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Uzbek parliamentary delegation continues its official visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan. As part of the visit, Senate Chairman of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with Erlan Koshanov, Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan.
The talks were held in a constructive atmosphere and focused on deepening inter-parliamentary cooperation, strengthening bilateral relations, and implementing agreements reached at the level of heads of state.
Both sides emphasized the importance of exchanging experience in improving the functioning of legislative bodies and enhancing the role of parliaments and local representative institutions. Special attention was given to the introduction of a mixed electoral system and the expansion of parliamentary powers, where the positions of Tashkent and Astana largely coincide.
The prospects for cooperation on international parliamentary platforms were also discussed, including within the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, and the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
