Uzbekistan and Japan strengthen cooperation in agriculture

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A video conference was held between Alisher Shukurov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, Mukhsinkhuja Abdurakhmonov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Japan, representatives of Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, and executives of leading Japanese companies.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the agro-industrial sector, attracting investments, introducing advanced technologies, and expanding promising areas of collaboration. The parties explored opportunities for joint projects aimed at developing Uzbekistan’s agriculture using Japanese expertise and innovations.

During the meeting, an educational initiative was also announced to launch Japanese language courses for students at Uzbekistan’s agricultural universities. The project is being implemented with the support of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Agriculture and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). As part of the program, students will not only study the language but also have the opportunity to undertake internships at leading agro-industrial companies in Japan.

The courses are set to begin in March–April 2025 at Tashkent State Agrarian University and the International Agriculture University. Preparations for the academic program are currently underway.

In the first phase, covering 2025–2026, 500 students will participate in the training. The project aims to enhance the qualifications of young specialists, facilitate international knowledge exchange, and strengthen professional ties between Uzbekistan and Japan.

Following the negotiations, the parties agreed on further steps to expand their partnership and implement joint initiatives.
