Uzbekistan and Iran discuss prospects for economic cooperation at the 16th session of the intergovernmental commission

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 10 May, the 16th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran took place in Tehran.

The delegations were headed by Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Mohammad Atabak, Minister of Mines, Industry and Trade of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The session opened with a bilateral meeting between the heads of the delegations, during which they discussed key areas for the development of bilateral cooperation, including industrial collaboration, transport, logistics, trade, and the implementation of investment projects. Special attention was given to the execution of agreements previously reached during high-level visits.

Following the identification of priority areas, the sides continued their work during the main commission session. Presentations were delivered and future plans discussed by the heads of ministries and agencies responsible for implementing Uzbek-Iranian agreements.

The parties agreed on a number of measures aimed at increasing mutual trade volumes, including the use of preferential trade agreements, the organization of national product exhibitions, and the expansion of e-commerce capabilities.

In the area of investment cooperation, agreements were reached on the implementation of joint projects in agriculture, the food industry, information technology, chemicals, the textile industry, and mechanical engineering. Measures were also outlined to enhance transport connectivity and simplify the movement of goods between the two countries.

The session concluded with the adoption of a Final Protocol and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries’ ministries, aimed at deepening cooperation in the field of e-commerce.
