Uzbekistan and IOFS Strengthen Cooperation in Food Security
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 28 November 2025 in Astana, Berik Aryn, Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), received Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Bakhtiyor Ibragimov, at the organization’s headquarters.
During the meeting, both sides noted the steady and dynamic development of bilateral cooperation. Berik Aryn highlighted active engagement with Uzbekistan’s National Center for Knowledge and Innovations in Agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as with the Southern Agricultural Research Institute in Karshi.
He also praised the participation of leading Uzbek experts in IOFS programs, including projects on sustainable veterinary health systems, food waste management, and halal product standardization.
The IOFS Director General emphasized Uzbekistan’s constructive role in recent organizational sessions in Doha, where the OIC’s strategic plan on food security, the formation of food reserves, and the provision of strategic commodities were discussed. He noted that the next important step will be formalizing relations through Uzbekistan’s accession to IOFS.
Particular attention was given to the development of logistics hubs, improving water resource management, and strengthening agricultural research cooperation.
In turn, Ambassador Bakhtiyor Ibragimov reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s firm commitment to deepening partnership with IOFS. He stated that domestic procedures for the country’s accession to the organization are in their final stages and expressed readiness to promote joint initiatives aimed at developing Uzbekistan’s agricultural potential and that of the region as a whole.
